Rev. Awit Marcelino appointed interim national youth and young adult pastor
We are excited to announce that the Rev. Awit Marcelino has accepted an appointment as our interim national youth and young adult pastor for the next year.
In this role Pastor Awit will work with her national church colleagues, the national executive, and most importantly, the youth and young adults themselves to assess needs, envision possibilities, and build programming for our next year and the future beyond. We are passionate about continuing youth and young adult ministry *beyond* that year, but are using this time to learn, experiment, and plan what that will look like. Pastor Awit has accepted this as a half-time position and is continuing her service as the minister at St. Thomas Christian Church.
Pastor Awit is a second-generation Filipino-Canadian from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and a third-generation Disciple. She has a B.A. from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Divinity from Emmanuel College in the University of Toronto. In 2022, she was ordained in her home congregation of Broadway Disciples United Church in Winnipeg.
As a youth and young adult, she was involved in youth and young adult ministry at her local church and at Encounter. She volunteered as a Disciples and Canadian representative on ecumenical women's boards. She is a facilitator for the National Benevolent Association's Peer Learning & Wellness Group for Asian and Pacific Islander young adults. She is also the treasurer for the College of Churches of Christ in Canada. She lives in London, Ontario, with her partner.
She brings to this position a lifetime of intercultural, international, and ecumenical experience that will build bridges within and beyond our diverse church.
